Mount Timpanogos - Deyu Kong

Mount Timpanogos

Cover photo: Wildflowers at the base of Mount Timpanogos. I went in early July but I hear late july is the best time to go up to see the wildflowers, apparently this is not even ‘fully bloom’.

I summited Mount Timpanogos via the Timpooneke Trail. The hike is about 13 miles from the trailhead to the peak, I made a detour to Emerald Lakes on the way back so it was a bit longer. Elevation gain is about 4,500 feet. This was one of the most beautiful hikes I’ve done.

Billy Goats
Momma goat and her baby near the summit. The adults just started shedding their coat this time of year.
You'll be hiking all the way to the top (peak on the left) along this ridge. Lots of exposure, love it.
The hike up is challenging, this was not taken with a fisheye lense. As you get closer to the peak, the terrain becomes more challenging. It was a fantastic hike.
Panoramic view from the ridge. Look closely, you can see the trail snaking up the meadow.
The final section of the hike to the summit. Look closely on the left side, the trail follows the ridge.
Timpanogos summit, there is a little structure here with a guestbook inside.
View of Orem, Provo and Utah Lake from the peak.
Pretty tired at this point, but happy to make it to the top.
Action shot of a baby goat catching up to the rest of the family. There were a lot of goats and often times they would block the trail.
Look closely at the bottom center and you'll see a couple of hikers crossing the glacier towards Emerald Lakes. This convinced me to go check it out. I wasn't about to hike 13 miles and not take a look.
In retrospect, I probably shouldn't have done this without Microspikes. The trail condition didn't look terrible, so I thought I'd take it slow and give it a go. There were some sketchy moments, but overall not so bad.
This is a view of Emerald Lakes from the summit. You can see the emergency shelter at the lower middle left.
A view of the emergency shelter, right next to Emerald Lakes.
An underwater photo of Emerald Lakes. I don't recommend using your phone to do this by the way.
Bonus: not Mount Timpanogos, but a campsite that a I stayed at in the same mountain range.
Bonus: Lake Blanche, near SLC. Can you spot the moose (two)?
Bonus: SLC at sunset from Suncrest Mountain View.
